Rush Creek Elementary School students jam out with March Music Madness
Students in Barbara Auer and Laura Friant’s music classes at Rush Creek Elementary School dove into music during Music in our Schools Month with a March Madness song bracket.
Staff members across the building chose 16 songs from a variety of genres for the bracket, including “World In Union,” “Into the Wild,” “Can I Kick It?” and “Dreams.” Each week, students voted on the matchups after listening to them and singing along in music class. The song with the most votes moved on to the next week.
The final four songs selected by students were “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Stayin’ Alive,” “Beat It” and “9-5.” Jill Frey’s first graders voted on the final four on March 17, voting on an even split between “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “Stayin’ Alive” but with more students liking “9-5” than “Beat It.”
Each March, Osseo Area Schools recognizes Music In Our Schools Month, which is an opportunity for music teachers to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community, and to display the benefits that school music brings to students of all ages.
